Kayaking Essentials

Florida Weather

The climate in Florida ranges from mild and dry in the winter, to hot and humid in the summer.  Summer is also Florida’s wet season and pop up rain showers are a common occurrence.  By knowing what to expect from the climate, you can be prepared with the right clothing and gear to make your trip comfortable in any condition. For more information on what to wear check out the link here.  Check the forecast here.

Stay Hydrated

Water regulates your body temperature and helps keep your muscles and joints working smoothly.  If you’re not hydrated, your body can’t perform at its peak level.  So make sure you bring enough water for yourself, about 1 to 3 liters per person, when preparing for a kayak trip.

Personal Flotation Device

One of the requirements for all WayneAdventures kayak trips is that you wear a life jacket at all times.  Life jackets save lives and safety is important, so we wear it every time as a prevention method.  About 80% of all drowning victims were not wearing a life jacket.  Even the most proficient of swimmers wear a life jacket.  So we all wear a life jacket to prevent this from happening.  Watch this video here to see how important life jackets are.  WayneAdventures will provide you with a life jacket, but if you have your own personal life jacket that you are comfortable in, you are more than welcome to wear it on your kayak trip.

Refreshments

Based on your own personal needs and the length of your trip, you may want to consider bringing your own snacks and small bites to eat with you.  We will provide a dry bag for you on your trip.  So bring any small food items that can fit in a dry bag.  Coolers and alcoholic beverages are not allowed.
